Our Press
The Franciscan Printing Press is operated by the Custody of the Holy Land. It opened in Jerusalem in 1847 under the name Stamperia Francescana. The various governments that succeeded one another in the land recognized it as the Franciscan Printing Press, which has become its permanent name. Our publications form an extensive collection of historical documents on the Holy Land, the Status quo and the holy places, the shrines, liturgical books for the use of local Catholic communities and other publications for Christian communities and schools.

In this section, you will find a choice of articles, the themes of which are connected with the countries in which the Custody is present. They can be political, historical, archaeological, biblical, etc.
These texts were not written by the Custody. The authors retain full responsibility for their contents. Nevertheless, we believe that with their various points of view they can enrich your knowledge of the realities of this country and nourish your thought and your prayer.
We are sorry not (yet) to be able to offer this service in Arabic, Hebrew, Polish or Portuguese.

In this site we invite you to travel into the very heart of the Custody. While waiting to meet you here in the Holy Land — bon voyage!

The 16 sites included among the Franciscan sanctuaries in the Holy Land are in the process of being renovated. Nine new sanctuaries are to be added, such as Naim, Tabgha (the Primacy of St. Peter), Magdala, Jaffa, Saint John of Acre, etc. In total, the Custody will include 25 sanctuaries. The two first sites to have been renovated, Ein Karem and Nazareth, should be put on line in the course of the coming weeks.
